0-6 month old newborns • Skin contact product
Aloe vera leaf powder is generally considered low risk for adults, but for newborns and babies 0–6 months we recommend being careful. Baby skin is very sensitive and there are some animal studies and data gaps that mean we don’t have a lot of safety information for very young infants.
Avoid using products that list aloe vera leaf powder on babies under 6 months unless your pediatrician says it’s okay. If you must use a product: pick one made for infants, apply a very small amount to a tiny area first, wait 24 hours to watch for any reaction, don’t put it on broken or red skin, and keep it away from the baby’s eyes, nose and mouth. If any redness, swelling, rash, or fussiness appears, wash the area and stop use, and call your pediatrician.
Animal studies have reported reproductive effects at moderate doses (source: Washington, Cosmetic Ingredient Review, 2006) and peer‑reviewed literature notes safety data gaps — this is why we recommend extra caution with infants. Also, some product certification programs restrict this ingredient unless extra safety data are provided. Watch for signs of allergic reaction or irritation (redness, rash, swelling, increased crying), and avoid use on broken skin or near mucous membranes. If you have concerns, check with your child’s doctor.
