0-6 month old newborns • Skin contact product
For newborns and babies under 6 months: capsicum (the active part of chili/pepper products) can burn and irritate delicate skin and eyes. It is not a safe ingredient to put on infant skin.
Do not use creams, wipes, oils or balms that list capsicum, capsaicin, chili oleoresin, or similar names on babies under 6 months. Check ingredient labels on any skin product. If baby gets it on the skin or in the eyes, rinse thoroughly with plain water, remove soaked clothing, and call your pediatrician if the baby is very upset, has lasting redness, blisters, or breathing problems.
Warning sources: Cosmetic Ingredient Review notes skin, eye and lung irritation and recommends limits for use. Although other regulators list low systemic toxicity, they do not address infant skin sensitivity. Avoid products marketed as 'warming' or 'tingly' for babies, keep products containing capsicum out of reach, and never use them on the face, diaper area, or broken skin of infants. Seek urgent care if the baby has severe pain, swelling, blisters, vomiting, or any trouble breathing.
