For preschoolers (ages 2–5), PPG-9 is generally low risk when it’s used in regular cosmetic products. Most checks show low concerns for serious effects. However, one health agency flagged possible non-reproductive organ effects and there is some chance it can irritate skin or eyes, so we stay a little cautious.
If you use a product that lists PPG-9 on a child aged 2–5: choose products made for kids, follow the product label, do a small patch test on the inner forearm and wait 24 hours, avoid applying to broken or very red skin, keep it away from eyes and mouth, and stop use if you see redness, swelling, rash, breathing changes, or any other worrying signs. If the product will be used on large areas of the body often, or your child has skin conditions or other health concerns, ask your pediatrician.
Watch for skin or eye irritation and stop use if irritation appears (this warning is based on cosmetic safety reviews). Be aware that a government health agency has listed PPG-9 with a possible non-reproductive organ toxicity concern — this is why we recommend limited, careful use and consulting a doctor if your child is exposed frequently or over large skin areas (information from Environment Canada and cosmetic safety review panels).
