5+ year old children • Skin contact product
For school-age children (5 years and older), feverfew extract used on the skin is generally low risk. It is a plant extract that rarely causes serious problems.
Before using a new product, do a patch test: put a small amount on the inside of the forearm and wait 24 hours. Use products made for children when possible, avoid putting the product on cuts or open skin, and keep it away from eyes and mouth. If your child has a known allergy to daisies, ragweed, or similar plants, avoid products with feverfew.
Watch for skin irritation, redness, itching, swelling, or a rash. If any of these happen, stop use and wash the area, and contact your child's healthcare provider if it is severe. Avoid use on broken skin. These cautions come from the ingredient safety information we reviewed, which noted low-level allergy concerns.
