6-12 month old babies • Skin contact product
For babies 6–12 months: overall chemical reviews find low broad hazards, but cardamom seed oil is an essential oil and can irritate sensitive baby skin or cause an allergic reaction. Use caution and treat it as a possible skin allergen.
If you choose to use it on a baby 6–12 months old, do so very rarely and only in small, diluted amounts. Do a patch test first (apply a tiny drop of the diluted mix to a small area on the baby’s inner arm and wait 24 hours). Dilute strongly — for example, mix one drop of cardamom oil into about a teaspoon of a plain carrier oil before applying. Avoid the face, eyes, nose, mouth and diaper area. Stop use and wash the area if you see redness, swelling, or irritation. If you are unsure, talk with your pediatrician before use.
Regulatory reviews note the oil is low concern for cancer and reproductive effects and safe for limited use in food (sources: U.S. FDA and Environment Canada). Still, essential oils can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions; watch for rash, swelling, breathing changes or repeated coughing and stop use immediately if any occur. Do not give the oil by mouth to babies and keep all concentrated oils out of reach.
