6-12 month old babies • Skin contact product
For babies 6–12 months old (infants, babies), hydrolyzed quinoa protein used on the skin is generally safe. It’s a gentle plant-based conditioner and has very low concern for cancer or developmental effects.
Use products made for babies or for sensitive skin. Before using more widely, do a small patch test on the baby’s inner forearm or thigh and wait 24 hours. Apply a small amount to normal, unbroken skin. Keep the product away from the baby’s eyes, mouth, and diaper area. If your baby has a known seed or grain allergy, check with your pediatrician first.
Rare skin reactions (redness, itching, rash) can occur — stop use if you see these and talk to your pediatrician. Some animal studies in peer-reviewed literature showed changes only at very high doses, which are not expected from normal topical use; this is why we still recommend patch-testing and avoiding application to broken skin. If a product containing this ingredient also has many other active ingredients or strong preservatives/fragrances, those may be the real source of irritation.
