6-12 month old babies • Skin contact product
This is a pine essential oil used for scent. For babies 6–12 months it can irritate skin or cause allergies, so treat it as a possible irritant and be cautious.
Prefer fragrance-free baby products. Avoid lotions, wipes, and other leave-on items that list Pinus Sylvestris (Scots pine) leaf oil. Rinse-off bath products may be lower risk but still watch your baby’s skin afterwards. If you try a product, do a small patch test on the leg and wait 48 hours before wider use. If you see redness, rash, swelling, or any breathing changes, stop use and contact your pediatrician.
Regulatory restrictions are in place under the EU Cosmetics Directive — this is the main source of concern. The oil can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some children. Keep scented products away from your baby’s face, nose and mouth. Additional references note it is not expected to be organ-toxic or persistent (Environment Canada) and that limited food uses are recognized (FDA), but those do not remove the cosmetic-use restrictions.
